    Rosa Bizarro has a Ph.D. in the Teaching of Foreign Languages from the University of Porto, Portugal and currently she is a professor at the Insituto Politécnico de Macau. She is the author of several publications (books, book chapters, articles, etc.), focusing on the Didactic of Languages, Teacher Training, Translation, Intercultural Issues, and Education. Both as an instructor and a researcher, Professor Bizarro has collaborated with several universities and other national and foreign higher education institutions. She is a “Chevalier de l'Ordre des Palmes Académiques,” granted by the French Government in 2006.

    Nilma Dominique

    Massachusetts Institute of Technology

    Nilma Dominique is a Lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she coordinates the Portuguese program. She holds a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics from the Universidad de Alcalá, Madrid, Spain (2007).

    Dr. Dominique has an extensive experience teaching Portuguese as a first and a second language in Brazil and in the US.   In her book, “Communication without words. A comparative study on gestures used in Spain and Brazil”, published in Spanish in 2013 (Alcalá University Press – UAH), the author analyses the role played by kinetic signs in human communication in general and its place in the foreign language classroom. Her research focuses mostly on the teaching and learning of Portuguese and Spanish as second languages.
